Notifications

[notifications] controls the popups apps send and the history kept behind them. Do not disturb is not a setting here; turn it on with the switch in the notifications applet or with glimpsectl notifications dnd. Manage notifications covers how long popups stay and what the history keeps.

[notifications]
edgeone of default "top-right"

  • "top-left"
  • "top-center"
  • "top-right"
  • "bottom-left"
  • "bottom-center"
  • "bottom-right"
enabledboolean default true

Whether new notifications pop up on screen. Turned off, they still go to the history.

Seconds a popup stays when the sending app leaves its lifetime to the shell, which most do. Hovering a popup pauses the countdown.

keepinteger default 100

How many read notifications you keep. Your history clears when you restart the notification service.

max-itemsinteger, at least 1 default 6

How many popups show at once.

monitorstringnot set by default

The connector name of the monitor popups appear on, e.g. DP-1. Unset, or naming a monitor that is not connected, uses the focused monitor.

suppresslist of strings default []

Block notifications whose sender, title or message matches these case-sensitive regular expressions. Adding a pattern also deletes matching notifications from your history.

To hide notifications from one app entirely, match it in suppress. The pattern is a regular expression, case sensitive, tested against the app's id, its name, the title and the body:

toml
[notifications]
suppress = ["^Spotify$", "Software Updates"]

The notifications applet has its own table for how the panel shows unread notifications.
